Holy Darkness

an Advent retreat with Jane Vennard

Holy Darkness

We have tended to associate light with the Divine and darkness with evil, but spiritual masters throughout the ages remind us that much of the spiritual journey is in darkness. The psalmist reminds us that God waits for us in the dark:

"For You darkness is not dark, and night shines as the day. Darkness and light are the same."  Ps 139:12

As the days grow darker during the season of Advent, we have the opportunity to explore the experience of darkness in our own lives and discover the light that rests there. Our morning will include periods for presentation, reflection and sharing as well as time for silence and prayer.
